Employers Guide - tips for preparing Work Related Learning (WRL) resources
About work related learning (WRL) resources
Thank you for your interest in supporting the work related learning to help inspire the Guernsey community about the opportunities in your sector and industry.
This tips and advice guide should help you prepare inspiring and engaging resources to help develop awareness of your sector/industry. This is your opportunity to really showcase the exciting range of careers in Guernsey and Alderney!
Aspirations, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
We believe that everyone of all ages and young people in particular, should have the opportunity to find out about careers to actively tackle any assumptions made about what jobs they might do. It is difficult to aspire to a future that you never see in your everyday life and don't know it exists.
The resources you provide will help increase awareness, raise aspirations and inspire people to consider careers and pathways that they hadn't realised could be for them.
Engaging content
Sharing real life examples of your workplace and the people you work with using photos, videos, demonstrations and props makes learning about the world of work more interesting so feel free to include any of these. We have been working with our friends at Skills Jersey about producing virtual careers resources and they have shared with us some helpful top tips for filming careers resources - even with low tech options! Here is the video guide Rory from Digital Jersey Here is the video guide Rory from Digital Jersey
Please provide a video link rather than the actual video media file - commonly used platforms for creating a video link are YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook.

Local, national and international resources
Although the resource is aimed primarily at showcasing the opportunities in Guernsey and Alderney, we are keen to also include the global perspective about the world of work and the connections to working in the Bailiwick. Please share with us via email any resources you would like included.
Adapting to new and different ways of working
With the world having to live and work in new and different ways due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are keen to reflect this in the work related learning resources. It is important that people using the resource can find out what this means for sectors and organisations and what this means for them as they develop their careers.
