How the system works:
Employers contact the Careers Service with vacancies they wish to advertise for young people. This is a free service for employers and young people to use
The vacancies are published on the website and printed out for use in the Careers Service library, careers noticeboards in schools, colleges and Post-16 institutions.
Future Development:
The Careers Service is looking into a an email alert facility for graduates. At the present time we offer a mail out facilty on behalf of employers to all undergraduates.
How to apply for jobs:
Please follow any advice given in the job vacancies as to how to contact the employers. Usually, if an address but no telephone number is listed, it is because that employer requires written applications only. If an e-mail address is listed, the employer is willing to be contacted via e-mail. If a link is provided to an employers website, it is there for a reason and you would be advised to browse the site to gain additional information about the employer before considering a job application. Just occasionally, a link will be provided to a form on the employer's website which will enable you to send in an online job application.
What to expect:
Guernsey Careers Service does not vet the job vacancies received and publishes them in good faith. We cannot be held responsible for inaccurate job descriptions or for listing job vacancies which have recently been filled by employers that have forgotten to inform us of the fact. We check regularly with employers to see if they have filled their vacancies, but obviously we cannot do this every day. Vacancies listed as States Apprenticeships carry guarantees such as minimum wages, approved contracts of employment and guaranteed off-the-job training - to find out more check out the Apprenticeships section of this website in the 14-19 section above.
