Choosing a higher education course is difficult. Unlike UK students, we have no "local" university and we cannot just get in the car and go and turn up at a university open day to find out more about a course that might interest us. So it is important for local students to plan university and college applications as thoroughly as possible. It's vital to find both the course and the location that is right for you. Start by asking yourself some basic questions:
- Why do I want to to go on to Higher Education?
- What difference will a degree make to me and my future career?
- Would I prefer to go straight into a career after my A Levels / BTEC?
- Am I prepared to live on a low income and possibly begin my working life in debt?
- Click here for a guide to the cost of going to university.
- Do I really want to go or am I just following the crowd?
- Can I work and gain qualifications locally? It is possible to study for certain qualifications locally. Contact the Guernsey Training Agency, College of FE, Institute of Health Studies or the Open University for further details
If you're not sure about your answers to these questions now, then you will be even less sure when the time comes to get on the boat or the plane.
But what if you are sure you want to study at higher education level - you're just not sure what! As we've mentioned before, initially at least, try to think in terms of course and location.
When choosing a higher education course you are faced with a bewildering range of possibilities - there are over 50,000 different courses at 325 different universities and colleges available through the UCAS system in the UK
In association with UCAS, Centigrade matches your strongest interests and abilities with the most likely courses available. These courses are then listed in a professionally produced report which:
 |
highlights the courses where you seem to be well matched |
 |
includes both single and relevant combined course options |
 |
challenges your choices where they may not be soundly based |
 |
presents the facts clearly so you can make good decisions |
 |
makes you more aware of your wider potential |
All this costs just £15.00* for your report to be emailed direct to you, or £20.00** if you would like us to professionally print, assemble and post your report to you. Click on'CentigradeOnline' to find the right course for you...
