How Guernsey work experience can help you - as a student?
Every year over 800 local students are given the opportunity to experience the world of work. The majority of these students will be entitled to at least one week of work experience before they leave school. If you are one of these students, work experience can give you the opportunity to try out an area of work that interests you as a career after you leave school or perhaps one that you are unsure about and need help to make up your mind.
Work experience could also help you understand the requirements to enter that job or career.

Work experience dates 2010
A work placement is your opportunity to spend time outside the classroom, learning about a particular job or area of work
During your placement you will be able to find out what skills employers look for when they are hiring someone to fill a job vacancy.
You will also get a chance to develop your self-confidence and communication skills. This will help you to work better with other people and to understand some of the health and safety issues.
Your school or GWex will usually organise a work experience placement for you and make sure all the paperwork is filled out correctly. But you will be involved in deciding what sort of area you would like to spend your placement in, and what you would like to achieve during your time there.
Think about the subjects you are studying and the sort of career that you would like to to follow in the future. Go into WexBox to find the employers who offer the kind of work you are interested in.
Work experience in the States schools is organised by the Guernsey Work Experience manager based at the Education Department in the Grange. For more information on the Guernsey Work Experience programme please see the downloadable files below.
Before you go out on work experience you will need to select where you would like to go. To help you with this you will need to go to WexBox which has the details of over 800 employers in the scheme.
